On Tuesday evening, a 15-year-old school student fell from the Penang Bridge and was rescued by a group of fishermen. The Fire and Rescue Department spokesperson stated that the fishermen happened to be at sea and pulled the girl out of the water. The spokesperson explained that the firemen received a call from the public and arrived at the scene at KM3.4 of the bridge, in the direction of George Town, at 7.10pm. After being rescued, the victim was taken to a fisherman jetty at Butterworth and subsequently handed over to the police.
