It is advisable to verify before sharing a video claiming that fish deaths in Penang are caused by radiation water from Fukushima.

If you are uncertain about certain information, it is recommended not to share it, as the local saying goes, “tidak pasti, jangan kongsi”.

Last week, a video claiming that fish deaths in Penang were linked to radiation-contaminated water from the Fukushima nuclear disaster began circulating on social media.

The video shows dead fish floating in a river and claims that the fish deaths are a result of radiation-contaminated water flowing from Fukushima to Penang.

However, experts have debunked this claim, stating that there is no evidence to support the video’s assertion.

According to experts, the video is misleading and lacks scientific evidence to prove a direct link between the fish deaths in Penang and the Fukushima nuclear disaster.

They have warned the public not to share unverified information and to rely on credible sources for news and information.

The Fukushima nuclear disaster occurred in 2011, when a magnitude-9 earthquake and ensuing tsunami caused a meltdown at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant in Japan.

While the disaster resulted in the release of radioactive materials into the environment, the experts have emphasized that there is no evidence to suggest that the radiation has reached Penang or caused the reported fish deaths.

Furthermore, they have stated that the fish deaths could be attributed to various factors, such as pollution, disease outbreaks, or natural causes.

The circulation of misinformation and false claims can lead to unnecessary panic and fear among the public.

It is crucial for social media users to verify the accuracy of information before sharing it with others.

By adhering to the principle of “tidak pasti, jangan kongsi”, individuals can avoid spreading unverified information that can potentially cause harm.

The internet has made it easier for false information to spread rapidly, making fact-checking and verification even more important.

Before sharing any information or news, it is advisable to cross-check with reliable sources, such as verified news outlets or authoritative organizations.

This way, individuals can ensure that they are sharing accurate and truthful information, contributing to a more informed and responsible online community.
