KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested five individuals, including four restaurant workers and a foreigner, for rioting after a video of them fighting on Jalan Bukit Bintang went viral on social media.
Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Noor Dellhan Yahaya stated that the police were alerted to the incident after a police report was lodged at 11.50am on Monday (Feb 5).
“We opened investigations for rioting under Section 147 of the Penal Code and arrested the four local men in their 20s and a 33-year-old foreign man,” he said in a statement on Tuesday (Feb 6).
According to ACP Noor Dellhan, the incident took place at around 8.30pm on Sunday, and it was revealed that the fight was caused by a misunderstanding between the restaurant’s female manager and the foreigner.
He explained, “The foreigner allegedly disturbed the woman, leading to the altercation, and as a result, the four locals were remanded for one day while the foreigner was remanded for four days.”
This incident has caused a stir in the local community and has sparked concerns about the safety and security of the area.
Local authorities are working to ensure that such incidents are swiftly addressed and that the perpetrators are held accountable for their actions.
