PETALING JAYA: Five Malaysians are currently trapped in Gaza during the continuing Israeli-Palestinian conflict, according to recent revelations.
The individuals include a mother, her daughter, and the daughter’s three children.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Wisma Putra, has issued a statement urging anyone with information about the whereabouts of relatives or individuals in the conflict zones to contact them for assistance.
They have also advised individuals planning to travel to the affected areas to postpone their plans.
Furthermore, NGOs intending to travel to these areas are advised to consult with the ministry beforehand.
Wisma Putra expressed deep concern over the rising number of civilian casualties and injuries since the conflict began on Saturday.
Additionally, they strongly condemned Israel’s excessive bombardments in public areas and the blocking of vital supplies such as water, electricity, and food.
In a related development, Palestinian Ambassador to Malaysia Walid Abu Ali made a plea for the international community to intervene before more innocent lives are lost.
He accused the international community of bias in the ongoing conflict, resulting in Palestinians being subjected to double standards.
Walid questioned why Palestinians were not receiving the same level of support that Ukraine received in its war against Russia.
The conflict escalated on Saturday during the Jewish holiday of Simchat Torah when Hamas, a Palestinian group, launched a surprise attack from Gaza.
They fired numerous rockets towards Israel and breached security barriers using armed individuals.
In response, Israel launched air strikes and military operations, which are still ongoing.
Walid disputed Israel’s claim that the airstrikes were solely targeting Hamas in Gaza.
He pointed out that around 900 Palestinians, including women and children, have been killed in the violence.
Walid stated that Israel was attempting to portray their actions as a countermeasure against Hamas and terrorists.
According to Walid, all Palestinians, regardless of their political affiliation, are united against Israeli aggression.
He emphasized that they are fighting because they have been denied the opportunity to exercise their freedom in their own land.
Muslim Imran, the director of the Asia Middle East Centre, described the Hamas attack on October 7 as a significant military failure on Israel’s part.
He accused the Zionist regime of seeking revenge on innocent Palestinians through indiscriminate aerial bombardments.
Muslim called on the international community to intervene and not ignore the atrocities committed against innocent civilians in Gaza.
So far, reports indicate that approximately 900 Palestinians and 1,200 Israelis have been killed in the ongoing conflict.
Meanwhile, Wisma Putra announced that they are currently in the process of allocating RM1 million as early humanitarian aid through the People’s Humanitarian Trust Account for Palestine (AAKRP), as stated by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi on Monday.
