A fight involving a pistol took place at a people’s housing project in George Town, leading to the arrest and remand of five men for investigation.
Acting Deputy OCPD Supt V. Saravanan stated that the first suspect was apprehended at the Jalan Sungai flats, while the other four fled in a car and were subsequently caught.
The first suspect was taken to Penang Hospital for treatment of head injuries before being remanded.
“A group of locals were involved in a fight at the Jalan Sungai flats at 2:30am on Wednesday. When the police arrived, they found a man with head injuries and covered in blood,” said Supt V. Saravanan.
The suspect was in possession of a pistol during the incident, but no further violence occurred, according to his statement on Wednesday.
Following the initial arrest, two policemen on motorcycles chased down the remaining suspects as they attempted to flee in a car, resulting in a collision between the vehicles.
An initial investigation determined that the fight was a result of a disagreement between the group of men, and a pistol and a sharp weapon used in the altercation were seized.
The suspects, aged between 24 and 34, are being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting and Section 36 (1) of the Arms Act 1960 for possession of an imitation weapon.
They have been remanded for four days, scheduled to end on Saturday, December 9th.
