Police in Batu Pahat have detained five men for engaging in a violent confrontation near a local school.
Batu Pahat OCPD Asst Comm Ismail Dollah stated that the suspects, who were captured on camera during the incident, were apprehended on Wednesday (Jan 10).
According to Ismail, the victim, a 25-year-old man, was waiting to pick up his friend from the school when he was attacked by a group of eight men armed with sticks.
After managing to escape by running to his car, the victim drove directly to the Batu Pahat police station to file a report, Ismail mentioned in a statement.
He also revealed that the assault is believed to have stemmed from a misunderstanding between the victim and one of the men involved.
The victim sustained injuries to his face, hand, and back, and has received medical treatment at Batu Pahat Hospital.
“We have detained five of the suspects, all of whom are locals ranging from 15 to 40 years old,” Ismail stated. “We are currently in the process of locating the other individuals involved.”
The arrested suspects are set to be remanded for three days beginning Friday (Jan 12), he added.
The case is currently under investigation under Section 148 of the Penal Code regarding rioting.
