Five police reports have been filed in response to a TikTok video that encourages people to gather in front of the Sogo shopping centre in Kuala Lumpur on Sept 16. In a statement on Tuesday, Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Allaudeen Abdul Majid informed that an investigation has been launched and the police have taken the statements of two individuals, with four more to follow soon.
Comm Datuk Allaudeen Abdul Majid warned the public against participating in unlawful assemblies. He emphasised that action will be taken against those who are involved. The planned gathering on Sept 16 is aimed at protesting Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) on 47 corruption charges.
Ahmad Fadhli Shaari, the leader of Perikatan Youth, previously announced their intention to hold a peaceful assembly on Sept 16 as part of their “Save Malaysia Movement”. On Sept 4, High Court judge Datuk Collin Lawrence Sequerah granted the prosecution’s application for a DNAA, citing 11 reasons.
A DNAA allows for the accused to face trial for the same charges in the future, should the prosecution choose to do so.
