KOTA KINABALU: A large tree fell and damaged five parked cars in Tamparuli, about 35km from here.
No one was hurt in the incident.
The Fire and Rescue Services Department was alerted of the incident at 1.29pm and a team of six firemen was dispatched from the Tuaran fire station.
“They arrived at the scene, some 13km away from the station, at 1.45pm, and found five vehicles – three cars and two lorries – underneath the tree,” said senior assistant fire commander Mohd Ishak Amran.
Firemen had to cut the tree trunk with chainsaws and the operation ended at 4.33pm.
Meanwhile, in an unrelated case, Mohd Ishak said that the search and rescue operation for a 35-year-old man who fell from a boat during a fishing trip with a friend has entered the eighth day.
He said there was still no sign of the victim, identified as Harfy Aminudin.
“They were fishing when strong waves hit the boat, causing the victim to fall into the sea. That was the last time he was seen,” said Mohd Ishak.
He advised the public to always check the weather forecast before engaging in water activities.
“Make sure to use personal flotation devices when engaging in water activities and reduce it if the weather is unfavourable,” he said.
