BUKIT MERTAJAM: Nine individuals, including five women, have been apprehended in connection with the death of a one-year-old boy believed to have been subjected to abuse. The incident occurred at approximately 7pm on Saturday (Aug 26), prompting authorities to swiftly respond after receiving information from Seberang Jaya Hospital. The hospital reported the arrival of a child with signs of abuse who was later pronounced dead.

Central Seberang Prai OCPD Asst Comm Tan Cheng Shan revealed that investigations revealed the victim was brought to the hospital by a man in his 30s who claimed the child had fainted and required medical attention. However, the man swiftly departed the premises. In response, authorities have detained nine suspects, ranging from 16 to 48 years old, in the Seberang Prai area. One of the individuals in custody had a criminal record consisting of five past offenses.

All nine suspects were sent to the magistrate’s court in Bukit Mertajam for remand. The case is currently being examined under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which deals with murder.
