KOTA KINABALU: Flooding caused by heavy rains on Friday (Sept 22) resulted in the relocation of 95 villagers from Kampung Suasa in Beaufort. The Fire and Rescue Department received a report at 4pm and launched an integrated rescue mission involving the Civil Defence Department, police, Rela, and other agencies. The report indicated that water levels had risen in the village, prompting the various agencies to evacuate the flood victims to a temporary relocation centre at Selagon hall. The relocation process was completed at 6.30pm, with the situation currently under monitoring by the Department.
In a separate incident at a housing area in Penampang, firefighters were called upon to assist in opening a locked door at a house to retrieve the body of an elderly woman. The call was received at 6.49pm, and using specialized tools, the team managed to pry open the door. Inside, they discovered the body of an 82-year-old woman, who was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical officer. The remains of the deceased were handed over to the police for further action.
