A flash flood in the area near Taiping has resulted in the opening of a temporary relief centre at the Kampung Simpang Halt Community Hall. The flood occurred after continuous heavy rain for two hours. The Perak State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat has stated that the centre started accommodating victims at 2.25pm on Thursday. The temporary shelter is currently housing 57 individuals from 18 families residing in Kampung Simpang Halt. The group consists of eight boys, six girls, 20 men, and 23 women.
According to the secretariat, the water levels have begun to subside, bringing some relief. It has also been announced by the Public Works Department (JKR) that the FT077 Pengkalan Hulu-Thailand Border Section 5 road in Hulu Perak will be closed. This is due to a landslide caused by the heavy rain. For the affected area, a Traffic Management Plan (TMP) has been put into effect.
The JKR has also made the decision to close the A156 Jalan Karai-Jawang Trosor road in Kuala Kangsar to all vehicles for safety reasons. – Bernama
