Police in Selangor have confirmed that the recent floods in the state are still under control and are being managed by the district police. Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan stated that the operations are currently under the command of the respective district police chiefs (OCPDs). He added that if necessary, the OCPDs will deploy more personnel to the affected areas. At present, the jurisdiction lies with the district level, and there is no need to seek assistance from other districts or escalate the command to the contingent level.
Police patrols in the flood-hit regions are being conducted as both a crime prevention measure and a rescue effort. Comm Hussein urged all those affected by the floods to evacuate when instructed to do so. In terms of preparedness for the monsoon season, the police chief mentioned that training and recent acquisitions of assets have significantly enhanced their capability for search and rescue operations. He highlighted that the police have conducted training sessions on heavy vehicle and boat handling.
Comm Hussein expressed confidence in the police force’s readiness this year, stating that they are better prepared compared to previous years. He cited the improved assets they possess and the ones that they have newly acquired. Heavy rainfall in Selangor recently resulted in floods, leading to the establishment of temporary evacuation centers in Bangi and Sepang. According to the Welfare Department’s Info Bencana website, there are currently 702 flood victims in eight temporary shelters in Selangor.
