    Floods: 10 relief centres opened in Selangor, Perak

    KUALA LUMPUR: 10 relief centres are currently operational in Selangor and Perak to provide shelter for flood victims as of 8pm on Monday (Nov 11).

    The number of flood evacuees in Selangor has decreased to 547 from 144 families, compared to 579 from 157 families earlier in the day.

    Based on the information from the Social Welfare Department’s Info Bencana portal, these victims have been accommodated in six different relief centres located in Sepang and Hulu Langat.

    Out of these, 87 victims are currently residing in the relief centres at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Bangi and SK Semenyih in Hulu Langat, while 460 victims in Sepang are being sheltered at Dewan Orang Ramai Kampung Dato Ahmad Razali, Dewan Orang Ramai Jenderam Hilir, Dewan Orang Ramai Taman Gemilang, and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Dengkil.

    In Perak, the number of evacuees has risen to 257 from 74 families, compared to 219 victims from 63 families earlier in the day.

    According to a statement from the Perak Disaster Management Committee secretariat, these victims have been given accommodation at four centres that are situated in Hilir Perak and Kerian districts.

    In Hilir Perak, the number of evacuees at Dewan Serbaguna Padang Tembak has increased to 103 from 31 families. Although there are no more victims taking shelter at Dewan Majlis Perbandaran Teluk Intan, the centre has not yet been officially closed.

    The statement further informs, “In Kerian, the number of flood victims remains at 97 from 24 families, and they are being accommodated at SK Changkat Lobak, while 57 victims from 19 families are currently taking shelter at the centre at SK Alor Pongsu.”

    Meanwhile, the Drainage and Irrigation Department has reported that the water level in Sungai Bidor in Changkat Jong has reached a dangerous level, with a reading of 4.08 meters, while the water level in Sungai Kinta at Weir Tanjung Tualang has reached the alert level, with a reading of 13.10 meters.

    The Perak Public Works Department has stated that the FT 147 route Jalan Selama in Kerian has been closed to all vehicles due to a landslide. As an alternative route, the public can use Jalan Pintasan Alor Pongsu-Bukit Merah.- Bernama
