KOTA KINABALU: Three of the four temporary flood relief centres have closed as the situation improves in Sabah, according to the Sabah Civil Defence Department.
As of 4pm Wednesday (July 3), the number of flood victims has gone down from 474 people (144 families) to 272 people (90 families), all currently housed in the Penampang relief centre.
The shelters that were closed were in Putatan, Tuaran and Tamparuli.
Victims have now started cleaning their mud-filled homes, throwing away damaged furniture and appliances, as well as trying to salvage what they can following the floods that hit on Sunday (June 30).
Volunteers continue to render assistance in terms of delivering food and water, and other essentials.
