The National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) has provided a contribution of RM100,000 to the Army, which is leading Ops Murni, to purchase support equipment for use during the operation and in the post-flood phase, the Defence Ministry announced on Monday (Dec 18).
The support equipment includes life jackets for adults and children, umbrellas, shovels, boots, brushes, and other necessities, according to the Defence Ministry.
In addition, the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) received disaster operation mobility equipment for humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) efforts worth RM9.97mil in March.
Some of the assets received included inflatable boats with 40HP outboard motors, aluminum “vee-bottom” assault boats with 60HP motors, a trailer boat, HADR boat carrier, and a one-tonne 4WD truck, the statement read.
Currently, a total of 995 officers and 16,094 other members of various ranks from the Army, Royal Malaysian Navy, and Royal Malaysian Air Force are on standby nationwide to address potential flood situations, the ministry stated.
Areas currently affected by heavy rainfall and floods include districts in Kelantan, Terengganu, Selangor, and Perak, the ministry added.
The Armed Forces have mobilized teams to rescue and evacuate flood victims and provide assistance at relief centers, the statement said.
Furthermore, the ministry has arranged for the Forward Medical Team to assist the Health Ministry with check-ups, it added.
Earlier, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin was briefed on Ops Murni by Army chief Gen Tan Sri Mohammad Ab Rahman at Wisma Pertahanan, with Chief of Defence Force Gen Tan Sri Mohammad Ab Rahman also present, according to Bernama.
