KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali has announced that an integrated data system will be used for disaster management during the year-end monsoon season. This system, known as the Defence Geospatial Information Management (DGIM) platform, will be used for the first time in facing the upcoming North-east Monsoon. The DGIM platform will integrate data collected through the Geospatial Information System (GIS), involving multiple agencies. The objective is to establish a joint common operating picture (JCOP) for disaster management, as well as an open and centralized database.
The Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, who oversees Sabah, Sarawak Affairs, and Special Functions, also mentioned that the JCOP will be continuously updated through the National Disaster Control Centre under the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma). This will provide the latest and most accurate information regarding the situation and location of a disaster. Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali clarified that the DGIM platform is separate from the MySejahtera application.
Datuk Mumtaz Md Nawi inquired about the development cost of the DGIM platform and whether it would be linked to MySejahtera. In response, Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali explained that the DGIM platform was initially developed by the Survey and Mapping Department and later modified by Nadma. He further added that the platform was developed using the department’s existing budget.
In conclusion, the integration of the Defence Geospatial Information Management (DGIM) platform into disaster management during the year-end monsoon season marks its inaugural use. This platform will combine data from various agencies through the Geospatial Information System (GIS) to establish a joint common operating picture (JCOP) and a centralized database. The JCOP will be continuously updated by the National Disaster Control Centre, providing real-time and accurate information on disaster situations and locations. Furthermore, it is important to note that the DGIM platform is separate from the MySejahtera application. The development of the DGIM platform was initially undertaken by the Survey and Mapping Department and later revised by Nadma, using the department’s existing budget allocation.
