The number of flood victims in four districts in Kedah has risen to 1,457 as of noon Thursday (Sept 28), up from 1,220 at 8am.
A total of 451 families are seeking shelter at 12 temporary relief centres. This is an increase from the previous count of 372 families at 11 centres earlier in the morning.
Kedah Civil Defence Force disaster management secretariat chief Major (PA) Muhammad Suhaimi Mohd Zain stated that the districts affected by the floods are Kubang Pasu, Pokok Sena, Kota Setar, and Baling.
Major Muhammad Suhaimi Mohd Zain explained that Pokok Sena has the highest number of victims, with 485 people from 137 families seeking shelter in three centres. Baling comes next with 383 victims from 124 families at three centres.
In Kota Setar, there are 303 victims from 108 families seeking shelter in two centres, while in Kubang Pasu, there are 286 victims from 82 families seeking shelter in four centres.
Among the evacuees, there are 23 babies, 15 disabled people, and 167 senior citizens.
Major Muhammad Suhaimi Mohd Zain mentioned that officers and personnel from the Civil Defence Force are assisting with logistics at all the centres and monitoring the flooded areas.
