    Floods: Evacuees in Kedah rise to 8,066

    KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 8,066 flood evacuees are currently housed in 41 temporary relief centres across Kedah as of 8pm on Saturday (Sept 21), marking a slight increase from the 8,022 evacuees from 2,568 families reported at 4pm.

    According to the Social Welfare Department’s Disaster Info portal, evacuees from 2,582 affected families are from five districts in the state.

    Kota Setar district recorded the highest number of evacuees with 4,291 people, followed by Pendang (1,483), Kubang Pasu (1,349), Pokok Sena (796) and Bandar Baharu (147).

    The Irrigation and Drainage Department’s Public Infobanjir website states that five rivers in the state are currently at dangerous water levels: Sungai Padang Terap in Kepala Batas; Sungai Bata in Kampung Bata in Kubang Pasu; Sungai Anak Bukit in Taman Aman; Sungai Anak Bukit at the TAR Bridge; and Sungai Kedah at the Lebuhraya Bridge, Kota Setar.

    In PERAK, the State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat, in a statement, said that the number of flood victims remained unchanged, at 27 people from five families, accommodated at the relief centre at Changkat Lobak in Kerian, as of 8pm.

    Meanwhile, the state DID said that the Bukit Merah reservoir in Kerian is at the warning level, with the water level as high as 9.08m. – Bernama
