    Floods: Kelantan MB's house inundated as situation worsens in the state

    PETALING JAYA: The house of the Kelantan Mentri Besar has been flooded as the situation worsens in the state, but this has not stopped Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud from carrying out his duties.

    “The water level rose quite rapidly. Last night (Dec 26), my residence and the surrounding area of Kampung Meranti were also flooded.

    “Thank God, this morning (Dec 27) I was still able to carry out my official duties to go to the office to chair the exco meeting in Kota Darul Naim,” he said in a Facebook post.

    The number of flood victims at temporary relief centres in Kelantan, Pahang and Sabah has continued to rise on Wednesday (Dec 27).

    In Kelantan, the number of flood victims was recorded at 17,466 people from 5,510 families as of 8am, up from 15,994 victims from 4,967 families the previous night.

    According to the state Disaster Management Committee secretariat, the victims were being housed at 89 relief centres in eight districts – Pasir Mas, Tanah Merah, Jeli, Gua Musang, Kuala Krai, Machang, Pasir Puteh and Kota Baru.

    Pasir Mas has 35 relief centres with 12,939 victims from 4,284 families, followed by Kuala Krai with 31 centres (2,838 victims, 764 families), Tanah Merah 13 (1,183 victims, 341 families), Machang four (204 victims, 72 families), Gua Musang three (139 victims, 33 families) and one in Jeli (82 victims, 27 families).

    There is one relief centre each in Pasir Puteh and Kota Baru, which housed 39 victims from eight families and 42 victims from 11 families respectively.

    The Kelantan Mentri Besar’s residence was flooded, but this did not stop Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud from fulfilling his responsibilities. The water level rose quickly, causing flooding in the surrounding area of Kampung Meranti, but Nassuruddin was still able to attend an official meeting in Kota Darul Naim the next morning. Meanwhile, the number of flood victims at temporary relief centres in Kelantan, Pahang, and Sabah continued to rise. As of 8am, the number of flood victims in Kelantan had reached 17,466 people from 5,510 families, up from 15,994 victims from 4,967 families the previous night.

    The victims were being housed at 89 relief centres in eight districts including Pasir Mas, Tanah Merah, Jeli, Gua Musang, Kuala Krai, Machang, Pasir Puteh, and Kota Baru. Pasir Mas had the most relief centres, accommodating 12,939 victims from 4,284 families, followed by Kuala Krai with 31 centres and Tanah Merah with 13. Machang, Gua Musang, Jeli, Pasir Puteh, and Kota Baru each had a smaller number of relief centres housing flood victims. Despite the challenging situation, Nassuruddin Daud’s dedication to his duties and the ongoing relief efforts in the affected areas are commendable.
