The number of flood victims in Perak saw an increase as 312 people from 89 families were relocated to three temporary relief centres in the Hilir Perak and Kerian districts on Monday (Oct 30) night, according to the Perak State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN).
In a statement, JPBN informed that at the SK Changkat Lobak relief centre, the number of victims rose to 86 individuals from 21 families, which is a significant increase from the previous count of 41 victims from nine families earlier on Monday morning.
Additionally, a new relief centre was established at SK Alor Pongsu in order to accommodate 56 victims from 18 families, starting from this evening.
In Hilir Perak’s Dewan Serbaguna Padang Tembak relief centre, the number of victims also surged. The centre’s population now stands at 170 individuals from 50 families, illustrating a stark contrast to the earlier count of 85 victims from 25 families at the start of Monday.
The Drainage and Irrigation Department (JPS) reported concerning water levels in several rivers. Sungai Bidor’s water level at Changkat Jong has escalated to a dangerous height of 4.18m as compared to the typical level of 2m. Sungai Kinta at Weir Tanjung Tualang has reached the warning level of 13.69m, according to JPS. Furthermore, the statement indicated that Sungai Kerian in Selama has surpassed its normal level of 10m, standing at the warning level of 11.21m.
