KUALA LUMPUR: A second round of floods has led to more displacement overnight in Terengganu and Kelantan, though the number of evacuees in Selangor has decreased as the situation improves.
In Terengganu, the number of flood evacuees rose to 1,182 from 299 families at 8 am Saturday (December 16), up from 330 from 109 families on the night of Friday (December 15).
The Terengganu State Disaster Management Committee (JPBNT) secretariat said that the floods have now struck the Kemaman and Dungun districts after impacting Hulu Terengganu and Setiu since December 14th.
In Hulu Terengganu, 433 people from 135 families were at eight relief centers. In Dungun, nine relief centers at various schools and community halls were housing 551 evacuees from 120 families.
Kemaman, meanwhile, has 193 evacuees from 43 families at three relief centers, and Setiu has five evacuees from one family at the Kampung Besut relief center.
The publicinfobanjir.water.gov.my portal reported dangerous water levels at several river stations, including Sungai Telemong in Hulu Terengganu and Sungai Nerus in Kampung Langkap.
Similarly, the number of flood evacuees rose to 1,350 from 368 families as at 8 am in Kelantan, compared to 1,033 from 289 families last night. The Social Welfare Department flood information portal said the evacuees are being accommodated at 21 relief centers in Kuala Krai, Tanah Merah, Pasir Mas, and Machang.
In Selangor, the number of flood evacuees decreased to 78 from 26 families at 9 am, down from 105 from 34 families last night, with all of them taking shelter at SK Jaya Setia and Parit Mahang community hall in Kuala Selangor.
