As of 8am on Tuesday (Jan 9), the number of flood victims in Johor remains at 7,324, with 2,062 families seeking shelter at 49 relief centres in six flood-affected districts: Kota Tinggi, Johor Baru, Kluang, Kulai, Pontian, and Segamat.
The state disaster management committee reported a slight decrease from the previous night’s count of 7,344 evacuees. The majority of the victims are from Kota Tinggi, where 4,707 people are placed at 26 temporary relief centres.
Kluang has 1,601 victims, Johor Baru with 840 victims, Kulai with 86 victims, Segamat with 73 victims, and Pontian with 17 victims.
Johor Fire and Rescue Department director Siti Rohani Nadir expects more victims to be rescued today due to ongoing rain and forecasted high tide at 9.12am in Johor Baru. Flash floods are also expected in the area.
