According to the state disaster management committee, the number of flood victims in Johor has increased to 6,564 people at 8am on Monday (Jan 8) from 3,322 people on the night of Sunday (Jan 7).
These victims belong to 1,819 families and are currently seeking shelter at 51 temporary relief centres (PPS) across six affected districts. Kota Tinggi has the highest number of victims at 2,964, followed by Johor Baru with 1,844, Kluang with 1,633, Kulai with 86, Segamat with 20, and Pontian with 17 people.
The statement also highlighted that Dewan Kampung Maju Jaya in Tebrau, Johor Baru, is the PPS with the highest number of evacuees at 519, followed by Dewan Raya Taman Kota Jaya in Tenggara, Kota Tinggi, with 376 victims, and SK Bukit Mutiara also in Tebrau.
Due to flooding, one road in Johor Baru has been closed to all vehicles at Jalan Maju Jaya-Seelong. Additionally, Kota Tinggi has six road closures involving Jalan Kota Tinggi-Kluang, Jalan Kota Tinggi-Kulai, Jalan Tai Hong (Taman Scientex), Jalan Tai Hong (Jambatan Kecil), Jalan Mawai Lama, and Jalan Batu Pahat-Mersing.
Moreover, six rivers in the area have reached dangerous levels, namely Sungai Kahang in Kluang, Sungai Siam in Kulai, Sungai Linggiu, Sungai Johor (near Kota Tinggi town), Sungai Kepala Orang, and Sungai Johor (Rantau Panjang).
