According to the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (JPBN), the flood situation in the southern parts of Sarawak has intensified with an increase in the number of evacuees and temporary relief centres as of 5.30pm on Friday (Feb 16).
The number of relief centres in the state has increased to three, compared to the two that were reported in the morning, following the opening of the relief centre at Dewan Masyarakat Stapok, Kuching. This information was provided in a report by the JPBN.
As per the report, the number of flood evacuees has risen to 191 people from 54 families, as opposed to the 18 people from six families that were reported on Friday morning.
The report also indicated that there are currently two relief centres open in the Kuching area, namely Dewan Kampung Sinar Budi Baru and Dewan Masyarakat Stapok, which are accommodating 34 and 135 people, respectively. Another relief centre in Bau, at the Dewan Kampung Segong, is housing six evacuees.
The continuous rain in the southern parts of the state since 3am this morning has led to flooding in some areas. This has contributed to the escalating flood situation, as stated by Bernama.
