JOHOR BARU: The Mersing flood relief centre has been closed, while a new centre has opened in the Segamat district. Segamat is now the only district in Johor with active temporary flood relief centres. According to the state disaster management committee, as of 6.30pm on Thursday (Dec 28), 54 flood evacuees from 14 families are seeking shelter at the three relief centres in Segamat.
The committee further stated, “The flood relief centre in Mersing was closed at 6pm on Thursday while another centre in Segamat was opened at 6.30pm the same day. A total of 91 people from Kampung Orang Asli Peta in Mersing are now allowed to return home. In Segamat, the third temporary in the district has received eight people from one family so far.” In addition to this information, the committee added that due to the flood, the road at Kampung Orang Asli Peta in Bukit Cantik, Mersing, has been cut off, while the Jabi-Bukit Tempurung road in Segamat is only accessible by heavy vehicles.
“In Kluang, only one lane was opened for the Kota Tinggi-Kluang road due to a landslide,” the committee said. Furthermore, the committee also noted that all districts in Johor, except for Mersing, are experiencing rainy weather as of 6.30pm on Thursday.
