As of 6am on Friday (Jan 12), the number of flood victims in Johor and Pahang decreased slightly to 5,800 people 45 relief centres (PPS), compared to 5,897 people the previous night, according to the latest report by the National Disaster Control Centre of the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma).
In Johor, 5,020 people are still seeking shelter at 36 PPS in six districts, with Kota Tinggi recording the highest number of victims at 4,135 people in 24 PPS, followed by Kluang with 350 victims, Johor Baru with 336 victims, Segamat with 95 victims, Batu Pahat with 87 victims, and Pontian with 17 victims at one PPS. Families of 1,397 are affected in total.
In Pahang, 780 victims are still seeking shelter at nine PPS in three districts, including five PPS in Rompin, three PPS in Pekan, and one PPS in Maran.
Sungai Johor in Kota Tinggi and Sungai Endau in Kluang are still recording dangerous water levels, while in Pahang, Sungai Pahang in Pekan, Bera, and Maran, as well as Sungai Rompin, are also at dangerous levels. Additionally, Sungai Arau in Perlis and Sungai Terengganu in Kuala Terengganu, Terengganu, are also at dangerous levels.
The report also stated that 61 roads are still closed due to flooding, damaged or collapsed bridges, and landslides, including Jalan Durian Mentangau in Dungun, Terengganu, Jalan Petri Jaya in Kota Tinggi, Johor, and Jalan Pekan Sehari Kampung Awah in Maran, Pahang. – Bernama
