RESIDENTS of Mutiara Fadason low-cost flats in Kepong, Kuala Lumpur, can look forward to better parking facilities once an upgrading project is completed.
The parking area, in the centre of the three-block flats scheme, will be resurfaced within the next two weeks with an allocation of RM150,000 from the Kepong MP’s office.
Resident May Peh Bee Leng, 54, said the parking ground was filled with gravel and sand.
“There are potholes which cause damage to vehicles’ undercarriage and tyres.
“Not many vehicles can be parked because of haphazard parking, and we often have to park by the roadside or at the commercial area,” she said.
She hoped that the bays would be painted to make the parking process more orderly for residents.
Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng said the parking lot was in bad condition but the privately- managed flats did not have enough funds for the upgrading work.
“Once the upgrading is completed, the space should be able to accommodate about 100 vehicles,” he said at a press conference.
“I hope the residents will work together to push for changes as there is no residents’ committee here,” he added.
It is understood that the flats are currently under a property management company appointed by the Commissioner of Buildings (COB).
Operations manager Roshelmy Md Sharif of Azmi & Co (Bangi) Sdn Bhd said abandoned and decrepit vehicles were removed from the premises.
“It is a long process as we have to follow removal procedures. About 15 cars and 10 motorcycles which were abandoned and taking up space in the area were removed last December,” he said.
He said the monthly RM60 maintenance fee was not enough to fund repairs at the flats, although about 80% of residents pay maintenance fees.
“The ageing housing scheme is more than 20 years old.”
Roshelmy said the management was trying to raise enough funds to replace and repair lifts at the flats.
