A foreign monk has been arrested in Puchong for alleged sexual assault, according to Serdang acting OCPD Supt Izuddin Ab Wahab. The suspect, who is in his 40s, was detained on Sept 23 and his remand has been extended until Sept 30. The police are currently conducting further investigations into the matter.
The arrest came about after a woman in her 30s lodged a police report against the suspect last month. She claimed that the incident took place in Puchong six years ago, where she was sexually assaulted inside her car.
To facilitate the ongoing investigation, the woman has provided a statement which will be used as evidence. Supt Izuddin stated that the police are also looking for additional witnesses to support the case. The charges against the suspect fall under Section 376 of the Penal Code, which deals with rape. If convicted, he could face a prison sentence ranging from five to 20 years, as well as whipping.
Assistant director Asst Comm Siti Kamsiah Hassan from the Bukit Aman Sexual, Women and Child Investigations Division (D11) mentioned that the victim may be required to provide additional statements if necessary. This is standard procedure for the police, and they will reach out to her if needed.
