A foreigner, aged 31, who had escaped from the community reintegration centre of the Prisons Department in Mantin, near Seremban, was captured again after three hours on the Kajang-Seremban Expressway.
The police chief of Nilai, Supt Abdul Malik Hasim, stated that the police received information about the prisoner’s escape at around 6:55 pm on Monday, August 28th.
According to Supt Abdul Malik, the prisoner had been sentenced to 10 years in jail and five lashes by the Temerloh Sessions Court for a crime committed in 2017 under sections 395 and 397 of the Penal Code.
The prisoner had been brought to the centre on June 19th and was due to be deported on September 9th.
Immediately after receiving news of the escape, both the police and the Prisons Department launched a search for the escapee.
The escapee was apprehended at KM29 of the expressway, which was approximately 2km away from the centre, around 10pm on the same day.
The police obtained a four-day remand order for the escapee from the Magistrate’s Court in Seremban on Tuesday, August 29th.
The case is being investigated under Sections 223 and 224 of the Penal Code.
