A former interior designer, S. Kamala Segaran, pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court in Kuala Lumpur on Monday (Oct 9) to three charges of providing false documents. These documents were used to claim incentives totaling RM9,500 under the Penjana Kerjaya program two years ago.
Segaran, who was the owner of Tech Train Consultancy, is accused of submitting three Employee Verification Forms with false details in the name of Perusahaan Tech Train Consultancy. These forms were used to claim incentives of RM4,340, RM2,260, and RM2,900 under the program.
The documents contained false statements about the names of three new employees of Tech Train Consultancy, who were not actually employees of the company. They were submitted to two employment service officers of the Social Security Organization (Socso).
The alleged offenses took place at Jalan Tun Razak, Kampung Baru in Kuala Lumpur on June 25, November 23, and December 21, 2021.
The charges against Segaran were framed under Section 18 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009. This section carries a maximum prison sentence of 20 years and a fine of not less than five times the false claims upon conviction.
Judge Suzana Hussin granted Segaran bail of RM8,000 for all the charges. Additionally, the judge ordered her to report to the MACC office once a month and surrender her passport to the court.
The court scheduled a mention of the case for November 6.
The prosecution was led by MACC officer Yasir Yahya, while Segaran was represented by lawyer R. Babu Naidu. – Bernama
