IPOH: Shaharuddin Abdullah, a former national football striker who was a standout player for the Malaysian team at the 1972 Munich Olympic Games, passed away at the Taiping Hospital early on Thursday (Dec 28). He was 75 years old.

His second child, Shahrina Shaharuddin, 42, stated that her father passed away around 5.07 am while being surrounded by his seven children.

Shahrina mentioned, “Our father had been battling asthma for the last two years. Last Saturday (Dec 23), he started feeling unwell and was taken to the hospital.”

“He was put into an induced coma and his oxygen level was unstable. Although he showed some positive progress on Monday (Dec 25), a few days later he stopped responding,” she said while speaking with Bernama on Thursday.

She also disclosed that the funeral would take place at the Kampung Bukit Jana Nurul Hidayah surau, followed by his burial at the Kamunting Muslim Cemetery after the Zohor prayers.
