BENTONG: Former priest R. Velayuthan, along with his wife G. Gunawathi and mother C. Parvathy, have each been fined RM2,000 by the Magistrate’s Court in Bentong. The three individuals pleaded guilty to lodging a false police report in order to make a fraudulent insurance claim. Magistrate Qasiratul Jannah Usmani Othman gave the instruction that if the fine is not paid, the trio will have to serve three months in jail.
The false police report made by Velayuthan claimed that his wife had been robbed by three masked men armed with machetes, resulting in a loss of RM16,000. However, the police investigation revealed that Velayuthan had actually orchestrated the plan to make an insurance claim.
