Former library clerk John David Namasivayam, who worked for Star Media Group Bhd, has died of pancreatic cancer at the age of 70. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, and two grandchildren. He passed away at the Palliative Care Unit in Perak Road at about 3pm on Monday (Nov 27).

John, who began his career as a security guard with The Star before becoming a library clerk and retiring in 2008, was remembered by former colleague Lilian Toong as a cheerful and sociable person. He was known for his love of cracking jokes and his close working relationships with his colleagues. Toong also revealed that John would sometimes provide tips to reporters on issues in the town.

Described as a loving father and grandfather, John was actively involved in church work, particularly at the Church of Our Lady of Sorrows in Macalister Road after retiring. Despite his illness, he remained determined and optimistic, as observed by his last conversation with Toong on Friday.

John’s funeral is set to take place on Wednesday (Nov 29). For more information, contact 016-419 7503 or 016-499 4937.
