Four policemen in Kuala Lumpur have been taken into custody for supposedly attempting to extract money from a ketum distributor. They claimed to be from Bukit Aman’s Narcotics Crime Investigation Department and visited the distributor’s residence in Taman Desa Gombak. Upon finding 20 packets of ketum liquid, they demanded a sum of RM10,000 from the distributor in exchange for turning a blind eye to the discovery. After negotiations, the distributor paid RM5,000 to the group and was assured that they would not be caught. The next month, one of the police officers asked for RM1,000 to be transferred monthly to a bank account, followed by a request for an additional RM500, leading the distributor to file a police report. Details of the case spread on messaging platforms such as WhatsApp and Telegram.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Allaudeen Abdul Majid informed that the four suspects have been remanded for questioning and the investigation will be referred to the deputy public prosecutor for further action. Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan confirmed that the suspects were active duty policemen and stated that they will be suspended from their duties while a disciplinary investigation is conducted. He also cautioned all personnel to refrain from engaging in illegal activities or misconduct as strict action will be taken against those found guilty.
