Datuk Seri Najib Razak, former prime minister, claims that he has been faced with negative perception for the last five years solely because of four differences in wording in a case related to the alleged tampering of the Auditor-General’s audit report on 1MDB.
Both Najib Razak and former 1MDB CEO Arul Kanda Kandasamy had to bear legal costs for four years because of these alleged differences in the wording.
Najib Razak stated that by reading the differences mentioned in the court’s document, it would become apparent that the amendments made to the audit report were unimportant, trivial, and minor.
He points out that even the then auditor-general, Tan Sri Ambrin Buang, confirmed that he acted independently without any pressure or instructions from any parties.
Najib Razak’s statement came after the Court of Appeal dismissed the prosecution’s application for an appeal against Najib and Arul Kanda.
He emphasized the importance of reading beyond news headlines to avoid forming incorrect perceptions.
The Court of Appeal, headed by Datuk Hadhariah Syed Ismail, decided to strike out the appeal due to the prosecution’s failure to meet deadlines in continuing the appeal against Najib and Arul’s acquittal.
Consequently, both Najib Razak and Arul Kanda remain free from charges related to the alleged tampering of the auditor-general’s audit report on 1MDB.
Judge Hadhariah mentioned that the prosecution team had sufficient time to file for an extension of time on multiple occasions but failed to do so.
