PETALING JAYA: Four motions proposed by Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong have been included in the Parliament Order Paper, with a focus on exempting a 2% increase in sales and service tax (SST) on electricity and water bills as a top priority.
“Although none of my 10 oral questions were scheduled for today’s session, I am pleased to see that the four motions I submitted have been listed,” said the Ayer Hitam MP in a Facebook post on Tuesday.
Dr Wee mentioned that the second motion aims to reintroduce the goods and services tax (GST) as a more transparent revenue-generating mechanism for the country through upgrades in the GST system.
He also highlighted the third motion which seeks a fairer approach to applying SST in the medical sector to lessen the burden on patients receiving traditional and complementary medical treatments.
“This issue was previously addressed by the Finance Minister in a press statement dated Feb 19, confirming the withdrawal of taxing TCM,” he explained.
The final motion proposed by Dr Wee is to commemorate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China to strengthen the ties between the two nations.
“This gesture will indirectly enhance economic growth through increased collaboration in trade and investment sectors,” Dr Wee added.
