KUALA LUMPUR: In a dramatic turn of events, a 45-year-old suspect involved in a narcotics case managed to escape police custody while en route to court. However, authorities swiftly located and re-arrested the suspect within a mere four hours. Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain confirmed that the incident took place on Tuesday morning (July 11), at approximately 9.40am. “The suspect made his escape just as he was about to board a police truck at the Dang Wangi police headquarters,” Comm Mohd Shuhaily revealed. The suspect was scheduled to be transported to the Jalan Duta court complex, where he was facing charges related to Section 39A of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. Comm Mohd Shuhaily informed reporters that an immediate operation was launched to apprehend the fugitive shortly after receiving news of the escape. The suspect was successfully recaptured in Jinjang at around 1.50pm on the same day. “We have already taken action against the six personnel on duty and initiated an investigation. Once the investigation is concluded, appropriate disciplinary measures will be taken,” he added. In response to claims circulating on social media suggesting that he was unaware of the incident, Comm Mohd Shuhaily emphatically refuted such speculations, stating that the Dang Wangi OCPD had briefed him immediately after the incident. He praised the dedication and determination exhibited by the Dang Wangi police force in locating and apprehending the fugitive. “Their unwavering commitment is commendable as finding one person in a densely-populated city like Kuala Lumpur is akin to searching for a needle in a haystack,” he acknowledged.
