The Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) has allocated at least RM1.5mil in their annual budget to attend to emergencies such as fallen trees, flash floods, and landslides. These funds are reserved for immediate assistance and are backed by a pool of contractors ready to be deployed. The mayor of Subang Jaya, Mohd Fauzi Mohd Yatim, confirmed the allocation.

The Landscape Department of MBSJ has been assigned the task of identifying trees that are at risk of falling during heavy rain. The city council’s Engineering Department has 14 contractors under its purview, seven dealing with drainage and flood works, and another seven specializing in slopes. This allocation includes two contractors for Subang Jaya, three for Puchong, and two for Seri Kembangan.

Muhammad Azli Miswan, the director of MBSJ’s Corporate and Strategic Management Department, stated that they have 21 contractors on standby to handle landscape-related emergency matters, such as tree pruning and fallen trees. In addition to the budget allocation, MBSJ also has a separate RM50,000 special allocation to provide immediate assistance, including food and medicine during emergencies.

MBSJ has taken proactive measures to prepare for the upcoming northeast monsoon season. They have conducted simulation training with the Petaling District’s Welfare Department and engaged in discussions with relevant government agencies. These preparations aim to ensure prompt and effective responses to any emergencies that may arise during the monsoon season.

Mohd Fauzi and the heads of MBSJ departments shared this information after a full board meeting held at the council’s headquarters in USJ5, Subang Jaya. The budget allocation for tree pruning and maintenance work in anticipation of emergencies during the monsoon season was clarified in response to a question raised by City Councillor George Yap.

Regarding the dengue situation, Mohd Fauzi stated that MBSJ will continue engaging with local residents in hotspot areas for cleanup activities. He advised residents to allocate at least 10 minutes weekly to search for and eliminate potential mosquito breeding grounds within their homes and compounds.

Since epidemiology week 38, MBSJ has recorded 5,936 positive dengue cases in the areas under its purview. This represents a significant increase of 41.2% compared to the same period last year, which reported 3,492 cases during the same week.
