According to Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil, the future of professional journalism is secure in the face of the advancing artificial intelligence (AI) technology. He emphasized the importance of human interaction in journalism, something that AI cannot replicate. This includes the ability to conduct personal interviews and convey unique experiences in stories, something that only human journalists can do.
Fahmi explained that while AI can quickly produce professional articles, it lacks the personal connection and touch of human journalists. He highlighted the fact that AI can only write about 60% of an article based on facts, while the remaining parts require the emotions and personal experiences of human journalists.
He suggested that journalists use AI to reduce their workload by helping to craft better stories and verify facts faster and easier. As a result, he plans to discuss with the Malaysian Press Institute the creation of more AI training sessions and modules for journalists in Malaysia.
