Sabah-based political party Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah expands its presence to Labuan, establishing 21 branches with over 2,000 members. The Labuan division is headed by Rosli Awang Damit, the younger brother of former Labuan MP Mulok Awang Damit. The party’s president is Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Mohd Noor.

Parti Gagasan Rakyat collaborates closely with Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) component Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) in Labuan, aiming for widespread acceptance among the island’s population. Its vice-president I Datuk Dr Mohd Ariffin Mohd Arif highlights the party’s commitment to working with PBS to achieve this goal. He expresses, “We want Labuan Gagasan Rakyat to be accepted by the multiracial people on this island with the cooperation of PBS here.”

Mohd Ariffin believes that the party, with its strong local roots, can win the hearts of the people in Labuan. He also emphasizes the importance of continuously expanding the party’s membership through various platforms. “The party aims to demonstrate its commitment to the people and gain their trust, not only in Sabah but also in Labuan,” he says.

The expansion to Labuan is seen as a significant step forward for Parti Gagasan Rakyat, and its leaders have optimistic prospects in this Federal Territory.
