1. Merdekarya (352 Jalan 5/57, Petaling Garden, Petaling Jaya): Known for its indie vibes, Merdekarya will host original grunge tonight with Hey Jay taking over the stage. Tomorrow night, you can experience the 1960s vibe rock with Momin & The Deen’s List. Next Wednesday, enjoy folk sounds with Brian Gomez. There’s no cover charge, but a minimum tip of RM10 for the musicians is expected.
2. Bobo KL (65-2 Jalan Bangkung, Bangsar, KL): After a month of comedic evenings, Bobo KL is back with great music. Tonight and tomorrow night, Aruel & The FaSoLa and the remarkable Mazlina Manan on vocals will present a Merdeka-themed jam session. From Aug 23 to 26, Bobo on Broadway will feature artistic director Sean Ghazi and fellow Miss Saigon alumnus Christopher Morandi for three nights of entertainment. 3. Jao Tim (61 Jalan Sultan, Kuala Lumpur): Doubling as an events space, Jao Tim offers a variety of musical options. Tonight, fans of folk rock, blues, and psychedelia can enjoy Billie Blue and The Nowhere Men. Tomorrow night, Rozz will bring Broadway to the stage. On Sunday night, Melissa Anne will pay tribute to greats like Beyonce, Adele, Mariah Carey, and Stevie Wonder. Next Wednesday, don’t miss the Table Lamp Concert featuring Disney favorites. On Aug 29, Sharon Chong, Pete Kallang, Puteh Piaf, and Jayvine Ramma will perform Coldplay’s music. Cover charges apply.
4. Hangover PJ (D-37-01, Dataran 3 Two Square, 2 Jalan 19/1, PJ): Hangover PJ in Petaling Jaya offers a wide selection of live music, including R&B, retro, blues, and rock. On Friday nights, the Union reunion will take the stage and explore the sounds of the 1980s. On Sundays, Julian Mokhtar hosts the T-Jam sessions, where everyone is welcome to sing and play along.
5. Simply Jazz by Tin Box (26 Block C5, Level G3, Publika, Solaris Dutamas, KL): Simply Jazz, previously located in TREC KL, has moved to Publika and is a treat for jazz fans in the suburbs. Tonight and tomorrow night, singer Joy Victor will perform jazzy tunes backed by Michael Veerapen on piano and his band.

7. Elli Rocks (DH 46-M First Floor, Plaza Damansara, Jalan Medan Setia 2, Bukit Damansara, KL): Elli Rocks is not only renowned for its gin o’clock but also for its great live music three nights a week. Every Wednesday, Gerard Singh holds his solo sessions. Tonight, Sharin teams up with percussionist Al Hafiz. Tomorrow night, Arab and Badar will bring their mellow vibes to the stage.
8. Loco TTDI (11 Jalan Wan Kadir 2, Taman Tun Dr Ismail, KL): This Mexican-themed spot offers live sessions every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday from 6pm onwards. Join Arab and Badar on Tuesdays and Maha Jeffrey on Wednesdays. Sharin plays his acoustic set on Thursdays, and Troubadour Tam gets in on the action on Sundays.
9. Rock Bottom Changkat (42 Changkat Bukit Bintang, KL): Rock Bottom is known for its DJs spinning the wheels of steel during the week. But on Sundays from 9pm onwards, the Sons of Adam bring back the spirit of Woodstock and play rocking tunes from the 1960s and 1970s.
