Authorities in Kota Kinabalu have initiated a search and rescue operation for a 12-year-old girl who went missing and is believed to have drowned in a river in Kampung Serusop, Tuaran on Wednesday (Aug 30).
The Fire and Rescue Department received a report at 2.33pm regarding the disappearance of Syaza Wardiah Muesa while swimming in the river.
“Firefighters, police, Civil Defence Force, and civilians are jointly conducting the SAR operation,” said a spokesperson.
Meanwhile, a 77-year-old woman who was reported missing in the same district on Monday (Aug 28) was found safe on Wednesday (Aug 30).
Jen Buyung was discovered three kilometres away from her home in Kampung Suromboton, Tenghilan at 2.55pm.
She was reported missing on Tuesday (Aug 29) at 5.05pm, prompting a team from the Tuaran fire station and a K9 unit to be dispatched to the village.
The SAR operation was further supported by the police and Civil Defence Force until the victim was located on the second day of the search.
“She received first aid from medical responders on site and was then taken to the Tenghilan clinic for a more thorough examination.
“The operation concluded at 3.50pm,” the spokesperson added.
