PUTRAJAYA: The Education Ministry will begin providing formal and structured education access to more than 300 children rescued from charitable homes said to be linked to GISB Holdings Sdn Bhd (GISBH) starting from Oct 1.
Minister Fadhlina Sidek said an evaluation session will first be conducted to determine the skill levels of these children, reported Sinar Harian.
“This initiative is taken with the aim of providing formal and structured education access to them to prevent dropouts,” she said during a press conference in conjunction with the ministry’s monthly assembly, here on Monday (Sept 23).
On Sept 11, Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department launched an operation codenamed Ops Global, under which 20 GISBH-owned care homes in Selangor and Negri Sembilan were raided.
The operation saw the rescue of 402 children and teenagers comprising 201 boys and 201 girls aged between one and 17 years.
With the operation currently in its fourth phase, the number of those rescued nationwide has risen to over 500.
