JOHOR BARU: A proposal paper on the care and future of 572 children and teenagers linked to GISB Holdings Sdn Bhd (GISB) was to be presented to the Cabinet this week but has been postponed.

Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said the postponement follows new information and additional foster children under GISB rescued through Ops Global.

“I should have presented it last week but there is an update (to the) process. We want to present our plans for the short, medium and long term.

“The process has not been completed. There are still many children who need to go through certain processes including identification involving the National Registration Department.

“Some are already 20 years old but claim to be 16,” she told reporters after a conference at a hotel here on Friday (Oct 4).

Nancy was hopeful that all relevant processes would be completed soon and the proposal presented to the Cabinet next week.

Previously, she said the ministry would bring a proposal paper to the Cabinet this week to be discussed with other ministries on planning for the affected children’s future.
