Launching on Tuesday (March 19), a new tourism product known as ‘Go to Lepa Banggi’ aims to draw more tourists to Kudat, just a three-hour drive from Kota Kinabalu.
The event, officiated by Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam, also witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Yayasan Gulam Modal Insan (YGMI) and Liaoning Northern International Travel Service Company Ltd, a company from China.
In a statement, Joachim congratulated YGMI president Datuk Seri Gulam Tumai for this initiative, expressing confidence that the partnership between the two parties would attract more foreign visitors, particularly from China, to Kudat.
Highlighting the potential of tourism in Sabah to boost the economy and create job opportunities, Joachim emphasized the beauty of Kudat’s islands and sea, as well as its rich Rungus ethnic culture.
He hoped that initiatives like ‘Go to Lepa Banggi’ would diversify tourist attractions in Sabah beyond popular destinations like Semporna and Kundasang.
Representing the Chinese company at the event were board member Zhang Yun, along with Sabah Tourism Board senior marketing manager Josephine Chai and YGMI Group international tourism communications director Ben Ting.
