KOTA BHARU: The General Operations Force (GOF) Southeast Brigade is set to receive an additional eight drone units in order to prevent smuggling and the illegal entry of immigrants at the border. The current possession of the GOF Southeast Brigade includes two drone units. According to SAC Sheik Azhar Sheik Omar (pic), the commander of the brigade, drones play a crucial role in transmitting accurate and timely information about criminal activities along the 144km Malaysia-Thailand border. He mentioned that any obtained information would be instantly forwarded to the nearest team for immediate action. “God willing, with the government’s allocation, the entire country’s border will be monitored in a more systematic and effective manner,” he said.
On Tuesday (Sept 19), after a retirees’ gathering attended by 400 former members of the GOF, VAT69, and Senoi Praaq at the GOF 8th Battalion in Pengkalan Chepa, SAC Sheik Azhar spoke to reporters, stating that four former GOF8 members, who had suffered injuries during an operation against the Communists in the 1970s, were given donations of wheelchairs at the event.
SAC Sheik Azhar expressed his gratitude on behalf of the GOF Southeast Brigade to the Prime Minister and the Home Affairs Minister for approving an RM42 million allocation that covers expenses in five GOF battalions across the country. He mentioned that this provision has enabled the construction of 16 static posts, costing between RM50,000 and RM100,000, along the Sungai Golok. The purpose of these posts is to provide comfort to the duty-bearing members by offering better water sources and rooms. He believes that this upgrade will significantly enhance the comfort and performance of the duty members.
