GOMBAK: Voters in Gombak Setia will need to decide between two familiar faces or to give a chance to a newcomer when they go to the ballot box on Aug 12.

This is because two candidates who faced each other in the 14th General Election (GE14), are set for an electoral rematch.

They are incumbent Muhammad Hilman Idham of Perikatan Nasional and Barisan Nasional’s Megat Zulkarnain Omardin.

Both men filed their nomination papers at SMK Sungai Pusu, Gombak on Saturday (July 29).

Meanwhile, Mohamed Salim Mohamed Ali will run as an independent.

In GE14, Hilman, then a Pakatan Harapan candidate, bested Megat in a three-corner fight with PAS, with a 12,399-vote majority.

However, Hilman – who had served as Datuk Seri Azmin Ali’s political secretary – left PKR to join Bersatu with him after the Sheraton Move in 2020.

In GE15, Megat, who is also Selangor Umno chief, contested in Gombak for the second time, but lost to Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.
