Desaru Coast, an integrated destination resort in Johor, will be hosting its second instalment of the Gourmet Series 2023. The event, titled “An Ode to Nature”, will be held at One&Only Desaru Coast from September 1 to 3. It aims to celebrate the beauty of nature by featuring dishes made with locally sourced ingredients.

The Desaru Coast Gourmet Series 2023 will showcase two Malaysian chefs who have been recognized in the country’s first Michelin Guide Kuala Lumpur and Penang 2023. Chef Su Kim Hock from Penang’s Au Jardin (one Michelin star) and chef Johnson Wong, the founder of Gen Penang (Michelin Select Restaurant), will be joined by One&Only Desaru Coast’s executive chef Valerio Pachetti.

Chef Su, known for his menus inspired by fresh local produce, has been instrumental in elevating Malaysia’s fine-dining scene since his return in 2018. Some of his signature dishes that will be served at Desaru Coast include bread and spread with tomato chutney butter, cured snapper with longan gelee and Sichuan pepper emulsion, and hand-dived scallops with smoked broccoli and brassica puree.

Chef Johnson Wong and chef Valerio Pachetti will also present their celebrated dishes, such as local cempedak with a twist of ginger flower from Gen Penang and baby squid glass noodles with wood ear mushrooms and asam boi.

The dining experience will be complemented by a selection of wines from Moet & Chandon, including Chandon Australia Garden Spritz, Cloudy Bay, and Whispering Angel.

“An Ode to Nature” will be available during two intimate dinner seatings on September 1 and 2 at Ambara, as well as at a brunch at Ember Beach Club on September 3. Dinner is priced at RM800 nett per person, with an additional RM200 nett for wine pairings, while brunch is priced at RM450 nett per person, with an additional RM150 nett for wine pairings.
