PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, the Works Minister, has stated that the Ministry is examining all aspects related to the implementation of the Multi-Lane-Free-Flow (MLFF) system, which had been initially planned in 2021.
In a Facebook post on Thursday (Dec 7), the Works Minister noted that he had taken note of the issues surrounding MLFF as reported in the media.
He acknowledged that the previous administration had received approval in principle to implement the MLFF, but clarified that the approval was primarily to allow for discussions among the involved parties.
Now as the Works Minister, Nanta emphasized the necessity for thorough scrutiny and improvement, particularly regarding the legal aspects, to ensure a smooth progression of the MLFF for the benefit of the people.
Nanta also highlighted that, as of now, the highway concessionaires continue to have the exclusive rights to collect tolls as per the existing concessionaire agreements.
He stressed that the MLFF initiative requires not only full cooperation from the ministry but also from the concessionaires and the highest administration of the unity government.
The government had announced last March that it intends to allocate RM3.46 billion for the implementation of MLFF as a means to alleviate congestion at the tolled highway lanes in the country.
The MLFF is expected to be implemented in 2024, with full enforcement of the system scheduled for a year later.
