The government is searching for the best method to ensure that subsidised cooking oil reaches the appropriate recipients, according to Fuziah Salleh.
The Deputy Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister emphasized the importance of ensuring that the product only goes to those who truly need it.
“Currently, the government releases 60 million packets of subsidised cooking oil every month, but there have been complaints that the product is unavailable in the market or always runs out quickly,” Fuziah stated in a Facebook post on Sunday (Oct 1).
“Many people have questioned why MyKad or MySejahtera is not being utilized, but the issue is that the needs of individual families differ from those of micro-businesses.
“If we limit traders to only three or five packets, it will negatively impact their businesses. Therefore, we need to explore alternative identification methods,” she explained.
Fuziah mentioned that connecting the scheme to the MyKad could be taken into consideration, but further discussions are necessary, particularly regarding the micro-business community.
“Whatever the case may be, please remain patient as we have not yet made a decision on the mechanism,” she added.
